The Genius of the Poor

Young British journalist Thomas Graham was on a short-term editorial assignment in the Philippines when he interviewed Tony Meloto. Asked why poverty remained so high in the country, Mr Meloto replied, "You won’t find the answers you are looking for in that clipboard of theoretical questions. Instead, enter the world of the poor."

Thomas quit his job, moved out of his high-rise Manila apartment and set out on a journey that took him across the length and breadth of the islands. Wherever he went, he uncovered remarkable tales of resilience, hope and transformation which taught him more in a twelve month journey than all his education back home.

This is a heartfelt, informative and often humorous account of how GK is inspiring so many people in this remarkable nation to overcome the poverty in their midst.

It was the best bedtime story ever! I slept smiling with a renewed dream for a first world Philippines where Filipinos glorify God!

  • At first I thought that this book may be a marketing strategy for GK that buying it would be a waste but my love for reading journal prevails. Being pro-poor I was able to relate to it. It a good eye opener for those who are socially ignorant. (sorry for the word) ...
