You've probably seen friends posting about it and maybe even read some of the many blog reviews - women are now slowly but surely shifting to natural. And yes, that includes their shampoos and conditioners.

But before you go make the leap yourself, there are a few things you'll need to know. And to give you a little sneak peek of the big perks waiting for you, we've asked a couple of ladies to share their own stories on transitioning from synthetic to natural hair care, and how it has made their hair - and their lives - better.

Please introduce yourself! What's your name, what do you do and how long have you've been a Human Nature user/dealer?

Diane: Diane, mom of two, and Human Nature user since 2015.

Tats: My name is Tats and I have an online business while I’m preparing to take the Bar this year. I started using Human Nature products around 2016 and haven't switched ever since!

Before Human Nature, how long have you've been using synthetic hair care products?

Diane: ALL MY LIFE! I wasn’t a regular conditioner user but I’d shampoo my hair every day.

Tats: Technically all my life (I’m almost three decades old!). I’ve been exposed to using synthetic shampoo since I can’t even remember!

What made you switch from synthetic to natural hair care products?

Diane: Personal circumstance led me to be more health-conscious and I really researched on how I can upturn my health and wellness. I started to do an overhaul of our toiletries at home. I replaced all our products at around the same time and while I didn’t have a lot of adjustments with the face products, the lotions and yes, even the deodorant, the shampoos were a different story.

Tats: I colored and bleached my hair for around three to four years and it damaged my scalp so bad. My hair also got thinner. I’ve been experiencing itchy scalp so I thought it’s time to switch.

Just like Tats and Diane, a lot of women wanted to make the switch to natural hair care because they were looking for how to better care for their damaged hair or were transitioning to a healthier lifestyle in general by choosing to move away from synthetic products which they've been exposed to their whole life. This is where the first big perk of going natural kicks in.

BIG PERK #1: You get to rid your hair - and your overall health - of potentially harmful chemicals.

  • Synthetic shampoos strip natural oil from scalp and hair, causing your body to overproduce oils in an attempt to replace the loss.
  • The chemicals used in synthetic hair care products build up on your hair and scalp, and can cause itching, skin reactions, clogged pores and pimples.
  • With Human Nature's natural hair care, you care not just for your own hair and health but the earth's health as well.

Many people make the switch to natural hair care easily. For a few people though, it can be a slightly challenging process:

Before switching, did you know that there's an adjustment or transition period?

Diane: No, I had no idea.

Tats: I honestly didn't know that there’s a transition period but somehow I felt it while using it.

How long was the transition period for you? Can you list down what happened to your hair throughout this period?

Diane: It was around a month. I read up on natural hair care products after just a week of experiencing the “transition” because the question I kept asking myself was “Is this normal???” During this period, I experienced itching and flaking. But afterwards I learned in my research that my hair and scalp are actually undergoing sort of a detox from all the synthetic products that I consumed before.

Tats: It took a few months, maybe around one to two months since my hair’s really damaged. [During the transition] my scalp was really itchy that sometimes even when I’m talking to people, I had to scratch my scalp. I was obsessed with scratching the flaky parts or those parts with dry wound spots. Then the itchiness and the dry wounds gradually lessened.
I originally have oily hair and it was really frustrating it’d be oily again even after just a few hours of taking a bath. But after using Human Nature, oily hair is not a problem anymore!

If you've been using synthetic chemical hair care products for a long time, your hair will go through an adjustment stage once you start transitioning to natural products. During this time, it's normal for hair to feel oily and for scalp to be mildly itchy or flaky just like what Diane and Tats went through as well. This just means your scalp is detoxifying itself from the synthetic chemicals built up over the years.

But as the saying goes, patience reaps rewards! Once you're done with the transition, you'll realize it was all totally worth it and you'll wonder why you ever stuck to those synthetic hair care products for so long.

BIG PERK #2: You still get all the benefits from your old shampoo and conditioner - and more!

  • The way synthetic shampoos and conditioners work most of the time is they cover your strands with feel modifiers to keep them smooth, soft and shiny
  • But since these feel modifiers stay on the surface, they prevent moisture from coming in and eventually making your hair weaker
  • Natural hair care products on the other hand use natural oils and other natural ingredients to get inside your strands and nourish them from within
  • Whether its less hair fall or softer tresses, natural hair care products give you the same results as synthetic ones but rather than relying on short-lived effects from synthetics, they harness the power of nature to boost your crowning glory's natural beauty.

And the good news doesn't end there! The benefits of going natural every day stays long after you've taken a shower - as experienced first hand by Diane and Tats:

Once the transition period was over, how was your hair and your overall experience on making the switch? Can you describe how your hair looked and felt?

Diane: I had a terrible hair fall problem even before I switched to natural shampoo so seeing this condition gone was just a relief. I’m a wash-and-go type of girl and I noticed it was even easier to have this lifestyle after I’ve successfully transitioned to natural. My hair is naturally softer and has a healthier texture, too. One of the most visible proof that my hair is so much stronger is the fact that I’ve never had split ends since the switch – I actually saved a lot of trips to the salon because of this!

I also like that the scent of Human Nature shampoos and conditioners are nice but not overwhelming! I remember that it was one of the things that I was always so conscious about when I was using synthetic – I didn’t like going around smelling like my shampoo and conditioner but it was so hard because their scents are just too strong. So I was so happy that now I can wear my favorite perfume without any other scent trying to overpower it.

Tats: The most noticeable change would be that my scalp is not itchy at all anymore! And this is perhaps the biggest perk from switching to natural hair care:
