![]() Dear Friends, This morning, I picked up some peanut butter (chunky for my husband Dylan and creamy for the kids) from the grocery. As usual I flipped over the jar to look at the ingredients and I picked the one with the least amount of synthetic ingredients. Imagine my delight when I found that the most natural one of them (no food color, no extenders just peanuts, oil, sugar and salt) turned out to be cheaper than the regular brands that had food coloring and other chemical fillers! Just goes to prove our point that organic and natural doesn't always have to mean expensive! For this month, we would like to congratulate Senen Lloren of Cebu and Romina Maala from Paranaque for winning the Race to the Summit program and attending the GK Global Summit in Singapore! To them and to all the dealers who worked really hard to sell more citronella and lemongrass products, we and the farmers in Negros and Bicol thank you from the bottom of our hearts! We have a really enlightening article on ingredients on our new ALL NATURAL FEMININE WASH and how it compares with regular synthetic brands. You will be surprised at the quality of raw materials that we use so don't skip this article! It will surely help educate you and your Human Nature customers. Happy reading! All the best, ![]() Anna Meloto-Wilk President Gandang Kalikasan Inc. PRODUCTS UPDATES COMING BY JULY 20th: Deodorant Introducing our ALL-NATURAL and ALCOHOL-FREE roll-on deodorant! ![]() Triclosan-free Paraben-free Parfum-free Glycol-free Aluminum-free 50ml JUST Php79.75! Available at Head Office by July 20th! Body odor is usually caused by the bacterial breakdown of perspiration. As a tropical country with an almost year-round hot and humid weather, Filipinos are compelled to use deodorants every day. It has become a staple personal care product which has evolved from the simple tawas into today’s commercial deodorants which mainly contain alcohol to temporarily kill bacteria or aluminum to block pores. But alcohol has several negative effects, not least of which is that it darkens your underarms! Meanwhile, aluminium has been linked to cancer and other health issues. Our new formulation uses chitosan, which is an effective, marine-derived antibacterial. To help keep you smelling clean and fresh all day, instead of using synthetic perfume, we use an aromatic mix of essential oils: ylang-ylang, lemongrass, rosemary and chamomile. This mix also works together with the chitosan to kill or neutralize any remaining body odor. Another ingredient - glyceryl caprylate - in our natural preservative system also works as a deodorant active in combating odor. Other ingredients include anisic acid from anise seeds and phytic acid from rice bran. We use these high-value, all-natural preservatives rather than the conventional and cheap parabens or BHA/BHT. Organic virgin coconut oil, aloe leaf extract and sunflower seed oil were added to the formulation to help soften and smoothen rough underarms. Incidentally, sunflower oil also helps prevent underarm darkening! But the best part of it all is that this all-natural goodness with no harmful chemicals is very affordable at just P79.75! Contact your nearest branch to check schedule of availability and reserve some now. PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: Feminine Wash ![]() Ladies, you asked for it and now you have it! Human Nature’s All Natural Feminine Wash was specially formulated to gently cleanse and freshen the most intimate part of your body without causing irritation. As we all know, there are many contributing factors that change the pH balance of a woman’s flora; douching and prolonged menstruation, frequent washing with soaps and chemical-laden feminine hygiene products. Our formulation includes aloe leaf extract and chamomile essential oil, known for their anti-bacterial, soothing, calming and aromatic benefits, coconut and sunflower oils as natural cleansing agents, and rice and anise extracts to work as natural preservatives. This is in contrast to commercial feminine washes which use triclosan as an anti-bacterial ingredient, sulphates as cleansing agents, parabens as preservatives, parfum as odor neutralizers and propylene glycol as emulsifiers. All these chemical ingredients are known to be irritants and individually may cause harmful effects to our bodies after prolonged usage. Triclosan is a possible carcinogen and overuse of this hormone-disrupting ingredient can result in strains of drug-resistant superbacteria. Sulphates erode the skin causing dryness and are known to mimic the hormone estrogen potentially posing health risks such as PMS and menopausal symptoms, dropping male fertility, and even increase in breast cancer. Parabens are also known to mimic estrogen. Parfum/phthalates act as endocrine disrupters and may cause obesity, reproductive and developmental harm, especially in babies and small children. Lastly, propylene glycol is a possible carcinogen and continuous exposure to this may pose a danger to the excretory system. Can you imagine using all these on your delicate area??? Our product is a definite breakthrough in formulation AND in affordability. We have illustrated below the price comparison per kilo between the synthetic chemical ingredients of chemical brands and the natural ingredients used by Human Nature.
This just assures you that Human Nature will always stand by its philosophy of being PRO-PHILIPPINES, PRO-POOR AND PRO-ENVIRONMENT. Despite the natural ingredients costing far more than cheap chemicals, Human Nature has kept the price to a very affordable P54.75 for a 50ml bottle and P149.75 for 200ml. IMPORTANT DEALER UPDATES Human Nature and Shopwise: A Partnership to Give a Good Life to Citronella Farmers & Dealers Alike As mentioned during our recent round of dealer assemblies, we are very excited to announce that our extremely popular Citronella Bug Spray is now available in Shopwise and selected Rustans outlets around Metro Manila. Our Citronella-producing community in Labo, Camarines Norte is currently expanding production from 7 hectares to 70 hectares and we believe that making the Bug Spray available in Shopwise will help to maximize demand for this community. Making it more readily available through Shopwise will help to give permanent sustainable livelihood to a large number of farmers, far beyond what they could earn from growing rice. As well as that, we believe that having presence in Shopwise and Rustans will ultimately help our hardworking Human Nature dealers too! It will raise the profile of the Human Nature brand, making it easier for dealers to sell. Plus, every bottle of Citronella Bug Spray will have a neck tag that directs the shopper to the Dealer Directory on our website where they can find dealers and buy other products, since Shopwise will only carry the bug spray. Also, the bug sprays in Shopwise will be priced at a premium compared to the brochure SRP, thereby still making it attractive for customers who know a dealer to buy from the dealer. We hope these efforts will help drive more customers, especially those who have never heard of Human Nature, to our dealers. Any dealer who is ranked Consultant and above can qualify for inclusion on the dealer network web page. If you would like to be included and are Consultant or above, please email customer.service@humanheartnature.com stating this information: 1) Name 2) One or more methods of communication: cellphone and/or landline and/or email address 3) City and barangay where you live Starting June 30, the Citronella Bug Spray will be displayed and sold in all eight (8) Shopwise outlets in the Greater Metro Manila area. Race to the Summit Results Two dealers emerged victorious as the Race to the Summit ended last May 31. Romina Maala of Paranaque Branch and Senen Lloren of Cebu City were the top performing dealers who earned the free trip to Singapore to attend the Gawad Kalinga Global Summit. Read about Senen’s experience in the succeeding article and learn more about Romina in the Dealer of the Month article. Human Nature’s first sales drive has proven to be a success as we are already putting in plans to help the expansion of the citronella farms from 7 to 70 hectares. We are extremely grateful to all those who participated and did their share in driving production and volumes at our partner farming communities. OTHER UPDATES My 2010 GK Global Summit Experience ![]() Provincial Race to the Summit Winner Senen Lloren shares his experience at the GK Global Summit held last June 23-25 at Singapore. Travelling to Singapore all-expense paid was indeed a rare opportunity. It was a blessing from heaven and I felt very fortunate. I thought that this trip would be more focused on pleasure than ‘business’, with the opportunity to visit famous tourist attractions like Sentosa Adventure Park and the Night Safari. But my experience during the Summit itself proved to be most memorable and had a powerful effect on me. I was surprised to see privileged and wealthy people at the Gawad Kalinga Summit -- it was then that I realized "mayroon palang mga mayayaman na may pusong mahirap". I had to hold back my tears because the entire experience was very moving, hearing the testimonies of people who have been involved with GK for years. I was among the crowd of delegates and dignitaries who expressed their admiration for all GK advocates and volunteers who have committed themselves to responding to the global fight against poverty. I've heard a lot of good things about GK, its projects and the man behind it - the non-showbiz celebrity, the Mr. Golden-White hair, Tony Meloto. I didn’t take this seriously in the past because I thought GK was merely just an organization for rich people who only helped construct low cost housing for the poor for publicity. But my most valuable realization in the Summit was how GK built real homes for the poor and giving them back their pride and dignity. For this, I proudly salute GK. Boarding the plane back to the Philippines, I resolutely decided to organize a group of individuals willing to embrace the vision of GK for poor people in the countryside, particularly the tribal communities in Bohol. Frankly, I don’t know yet what to do and how to do it but I will certainly reserve a certain percentage of my earnings as a Human Nature dealer to finance this endeavor and will recruit volunteers to form part of this organization. I have dedicated 9 years of my life to public service and as I go back to being a private citizen, I would like to continue helping my country. To all Human Nature dealers who didn’t make it to this year’s GK Global Summit, assert yourselves more when promoting the Human Nature products and advocacy. It really is a challenge! But if you focus on helping the local farmers, communities and GK beneficiaries, rather than on your personal financial gain, you will definitely be more inspired to sell Human Nature products. Hopefully, you will be one of the participants in the next GK Global Summit... in Australia. ![]() Standing: Senen Lloren, Joanna Gilladoga (Head, GKI Sales and Marketing) Seated: Dulce Punzalan (Branch Operator), Romina Maala, Regina Lomarda ![]() GK Builder's Night: JULY The next Builder's Night entitled Patriotic Education: Building a Future Full of Hope will be on July 7, Wednesday, at the Rockwell Tent. The evening will be a showcase of GK's program of education and values for kids and youth as we face a renewed hope in the ability of our country to overcome the challenges of poverty. Cocktails will be served at 6pm. We hope to see you all there! ![]() DEALER OF THE MONTH: Maria Romina G. Lomarda-Maala ![]() Race to the Summit Metro Manila winner, Romina Lomarda-Maala worked most of her years as an agriculturist for a leading food and beverage company. As a woman with tenacity of purpose, Rinna pursued a second career as an educator. Currently, she is a Red Cross volunteer and a full-time Human Nature dealer. Q: What is your Human Nature story? My sister-in-law (also my upline) gifted us with products in December 2009. I decided to sign up as a dealer two months after since I figured being a dealer would make me a more effective medium for sharing the advocacy than just simply using the products. I have subjected our household to a brand switch so it is virtually impossible for any visitor to miss Human Nature (they’re all over the house!). That way, it becomes an instant conversation piece. Outside the house, I have opted to make it the gift of choice whenever possible and appropriate. I take every opportunity that I have to talk about it, especially to mothers with young kids who are very receptive to the benefits of using HN products. I put extra emphasis on the importance of spreading the advocacy so that customers and would-be dealers have a deeper and more meaningful motivation for supporting Human Nature. I try to walk the talk by buying and using locally available products as much as possible, running an environment-friendly household, and having a healthy lifestyle in general so that I become a very credible HN dealer. Q: What is your Race to the Summit Story? The challenge of making a significant contribution for the benefit of the farmers was my driving force when I decided to pursue this race. I didn’t exactly have a strategy, but I had my “secret weapon” (my sister, downline and motivator) who really pushed me to “compete”. Selling is not a natural or an acquired skill for me (not yet, anyway). What possibly helped, though, was the fact that I’ve had personal experience with dengue when my daughter contracted it a few years back, so promoting the use of citronella came naturally to me. It also helped a lot that there were friends and family who were very supportive (and easy to persuade!) to buy the participating products to give them away as gifts, use them in bulk, or even sub-deal for me. Q: How was your GK Global Summit experience? I would have to say that the GK Summit experience was the first of its kind for me. I usually attended scientific meetings and conventions when I was still employed, where people DO NOT cry because of the presentations. It was pretty much evident that GK truly MOVES the people it touches, whether they are volunteers, partners, beneficiaries or ordinary onlookers like me. It is quite obvious why HN is a GK partner.
