Message from the President
Dear Friends,
While I was in Labo, Camarines Norte last month visiting our Citronella partner community, a received a message from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) informing me that I have been nominated to represent the Philippines in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Women and Economy Summit in San Francisco, California as one of the two "Women Innovators" in the Philippines. It is a great honor but more than that, a testament that our work in Human Nature is being recognized globally as a template for how business can squarely address the social problems that we have in the world today. The APEC WES is a venue where women from all over the world can share their learnings and experiences in applying innovation in providing economic solutions in their respective countries. I share this honor with you, our dealers, our branch operators, our farmers, our tireless and brilliant employees, and our suppliers who have given a hundred and ten percent of themselves to help achieve our vision of a beautiful, poverty-free Philippines.
On the home-front, I've had a wonderful time giving baths to my kids this past month because of our newest baby, the Human Nature Kids Natural Shampoo & Bodywash. This multi-tasking little helper gives such a creamy, moisturizing lather that always leaves my kids' skin soft and smooth. And because we don't use any strong synthetic fragrances or harsh surfactants, our shampoo is gentle on the skin and on the nose! On top of that, my girls love smelling like pineapples and tangerines! Just one more reason to hug them and keep them close! :)

Human Nature President, Anna Meloto-Wilk selected as one of two "Women Innovators" from the Philippines in the APEC Women and the Economy Summit
The Filipino flag proudly waves and flies high once again as our very own President, Ms. Anna Meloto-Wilk is selected as one of two "Women Innovators" from the Philippines in the APEC Women and Economy Summit. Innovation is key to sustainable growth and this just goes to show that women, including our very own Filipinas, play a critical role in bringing innovation about. We're so proud of this award and we hope that we can inspire other Filipina women to step out of the box and come up with wonderful innovations that the world can enjoy and benefit from.
HN being studied at Oxford and Cambridge University
Hear ye! Hear ye! Human Nature is proud to announce that our model for social enterprise is now being studied in universities as far away as Singapore, France and the UK. In line with this, we have been invited to speak at Oxford University, Cambridge University, the London School of Economics, University of London, HEC Paris and several other top universities in France and England this coming October and November. This is very encouraging and is an affirmation that the good news that is being done in the Philippines could eventually even help other poor countries too. Human Nature is the premier social enterprise in the Philippines today - something that YOU helped make happen. We hope you are as proud as we are of what Filipinos can do together ☺

Harmful Chemicals 101
Petrolatum
Angelina Jolie lips. Most girls want them, not all girls have them. So, in this never-ending quest for the perfect pouty lips, girls go to the extent of religiously brushing their lips at night to get rid of dead, unattractive skin for smoother softer lips and lastly apply on the yucky stuff - petroleum jelly. Others go to an even major extreme and get their lips plumped with injectible fillers but that's a whole other topic right there.
Petroleum jelly has been around for as long as we can all remember and while most might consider it harmless, it's actually a minefield of all sorts of dangerous chemicals such as mineral oils, paraffin and microcrystalline waxes. Yikes! And while its advocates will tell you that Petrolatum locks moisture against the skin, what it's actually doing is sitting on the skin's surface blocking your pores thus speeding up the skin ageing process and causing pimple breakouts. Aside from that, Petrolatum is listed as a probable human carcinogen in the European Union's Dangerous Substances Directive (UNECE2004).
