Message from Anna ![]() The air is thick with excitement in our little household as my due date is fast approaching. The kids have been busy making a list of possible names for the baby and declaring which chores they commit to do to help out in the house. All my bags are packed for the hospital ready to go at a moment's notice. Inside my vanity kit are all my hospital essentials which arrived just in time for this month's big event --- Calming Massage Oil to help relax during active labor, Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner in Lush Vanilla, Nourishing Facial Wash and Toner, all natural Feminine Wash in Chamomile Cool for post birth and of course Human Nature Baby Wash and Baby Oil for the little one. I am pleasantly surprised that just a little over 3 yrs after Camille, Dylan and I dreamed of an all natural, locally- made line of personal products, we've already got almost everything that we need! We are so glad too that we can share the goodness with everyone! ![]() Apart from excitement, I am so inspired with the air of patriotism that is spreading among young entrepreneurs these days. So many unique and world-class Filipino products are coming up that are also truly helping poor communities. ![]() Take this awesome hot pink abaca backpack that my daughter Chloe brings to school everyday from Ethniko Filipino, a social enterprise founded by young graduates of Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro in collaboration with local abaca weavers. It's a great way to teach our kids about indigenous culture and instill pride in our crafts. You can find these great bags as well as other local woven crafts from www.anthillfabricgallery.com, another social enterprise who are actively promoting local artisanal weaves with modern designs and high-quality workmanship. Our islands are a treasure trove of natural wealth and our people are brimming with creativity. All we need are more social entrepreneurs to put 2 and 2 together and the results have the potential to raise up a whole nation from poverty to prosperity. I hope we all find joy in discovering the best of our country and our people. They are everywhere! We just need to look not just with our eyes but with our hearts. Excited and inspired, ![]() Anna Meloto-Wilk President Gandang Kalikasan Inc. New Products

Sowing Passion, Reaping Hope ![]() Social enterprise advocate Joan Icotanim speaks softly but lives out loud. While many Filipinos profess a love for the nation, Joan skips the lip service and actively fills her days with a passion and vision for building a world-class Philippines. Joan made her leap of faith in 2011 and joined Human Nature's Social Enterprise Development (SED) team, a uniquely distinct department that focuses on strategic business planning for local communities and creating sustainable livelihood for various beneficiaries. From business planning, to project implementation and as well, implementation assessment, the SED team ensures the development of long-term programs for community development. It is a job she calls "making the advocacies a reality." "It might not be an easily measurable or tangible contribution, but social enterprises will change the way business is done in the Philippines... They will also change the pattern of consumer behavior: we will be proud consumers of local brands because local is now equated to quality," declares Joan. In many ways, Joan is living the dream. "I am where God wants me to be. Human Nature is the actualization of something I have been looking for without really knowing what it is: an enterprise with a heart." ![]() Pinay and Proud Campaign ![]() Last June 25, Human Nature together with Beauty Bar launched the Pinay & Proud campaign held at the Powerplant Mall, Rockwell. The campaign is a tribute to the uniqueness of the Filipina woman; she is NURTURING and encourages others to reach the full potential of their God-given talents. She is COURAGEOUS, whose inner strength goes beyond selflessness and enables her to make sacrifices for her family and country. She is an INSPIRING role model by sharing her story so they, too, can achieve great things. Lastly, she is BEAUTIFUL both inside and out, and shines her light on everything and everyone around her. Through this campaign, Human Nature recognizes 15 outstanding women who embody what it means to be a true Filipina. Our outstanding Filipinas are Cheche Lazaro, Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, Eugene Domingo, Maria Montelibano, Akiko Thomson-Guevara, Rachel Grant, Noreen Bautista, Rose Cabrera, Ditsi Carolino, Aliah Dimaporo, Bai Linda Eman, Anna Oposa, Isabel Cuevas-Santos, Xilca Alvarez-Protacio and Maricel Valderama. ![]() ![]() Find out what makes them shine with pride about being Pinay by reading their stories and watching their videos on our website, www.pinayandproud.com. Lastly, Human Nature aims to continue celebrating the Filipina woman with everyone through the Pinay & Proud Exhibit which will take place at the following partner mall establishments and universities: University of the Philippines - August 6-10 We hope this campaign serves as a reminder to every Filipina that amidst diversity in culture, religion or even dialect, she is special and unique. Gone are the days when she would shy away from her origins, for in this day and age she holds her head high with unspeakable joy, pride and dignity. She is Pinay, and she is Proud. ![]() ![]() Our generation needs a new breed of role models: women of strength and character, women of compassion, innovation, and patriotism, women who inspire positive change. We clamor for social artists, nation-builders, and passionate believers to look up to. Who are the Filipina women who inspire YOU? What inspires you to carve your own path and be a Pinay changemaker, too? Share your proudly Pinay story to the world! Here's how:
Inspiring 'Pinay and Proud' Story ![]() Everyone has a story. Read on and feel inspired by a fellow Pinay, Marylou Cordoviz Heruela as she shares with us a story about her mom and why she can proudly say her mom embodies the Pinay and Proud identity. ![]() Anna Meloto-Wilk's Commencement Speech for Entrepreneur School of Asia (June 30, 2012) ![]() "The last time I wore a toga was 12 years ago during my own graduation, and honestly I didn't really put as much importance to it as I should have. I was so distracted that I didn't even know that I should've picked up my toga 5 days before and I had to run to one of the offices just 30 minutes before the ceremony to borrow a spare toga so that I could march. Anyway, I certainly hope that you are all not as scatterbrained as I am and you wouldn't be as stressed and jittery as I was marching down the aisle." ![]() |
