 Dear Friends,
It has been a very eventful and purpose-filled summer as we come close to our goal of raising funds for 100 houses for the Human Nature Goodness Rising Village in Ormoc, Leyte in less than 6 months. It was a truly inspiring display of heroism of ordinary people on the ground who chose to share their hearts for the good of others. Last May 2-4, I witnessed first hand the extraordinary resilience of our people when we came to visit Brgy. Tambulilid in Ormoc. Despite many of the structures still damaged and waiting for repair, the people welcomed us with smiles radiating with hope for the future. I was with a unique contingent of young families from Gawad Kalinga Headquarters who, together with our children, decided to spend a few days building homes and distributing school supplies in the Yolanda-stricken areas. Despite my apprehension of how these young children ranging in ages from 3 to 9 years old would perceive the desolation and signs of destruction, I still went with my 2 girls and was humbled by their purity and hope in processing the scenes spread before them. The children moved us with their energy in packing school supplies in record time working to the beat of the festive music in the background. "That's the power of kids!" was their triumphant declaration after they finished assembling the very last backpack full of school materials.
If young children can surprise us with their energy, it makes so much sense then that we are about to meet our goal for funding 100 homes in less than half the time that we expected. When we first made the commitment to build the village, the company didn't know where we were going to get the funds for it but we felt the urgent call to help. Now, not only will we be able to provide hope for 100 families in Ormoc, but also I believe that the whole Human Nature family has gained so much more. It has inspired and united our consumers, dealers, employees, suppliers and even our families to dig deep and move beyond our comfort zones for the good of those who need our help the most. Driven by this same spirit, we are committing to do more for the Visayas now that we have proven that anything is possible for as long as we put our hearts into it.
It's been a good first half of 2014. Let's make the second half count even more!
