Dear Human Nature Family,
If there was one word to describe my last few days of 2011 and the first days of the new year, it would be FAMILY. As my own family gathered together to celebrate the joy of being together, I saw how other families shared the same. How we all looked back at the year that was and together face the year that will be. Together too, we all bore witness to how Filipinos gathered together as one family in an outpouring of support and relief for the areas ravished by Typhoon Sendong. As Filipinos, more often than not, we think in terms of family rather than individual. We rather than me. In fact, even the Philippine Constitution recognizes the family as the basic unit of society.
Families watch out for each other, support one another and never leave a family member behind. That is the spirit that holds the Human Nature family together. It's the very same spirit that gave birth to Human Nature. And yet, Human Nature is still part of a bigger family - the Filipino family. Whilst many of us have been blessed with a comfortable life, there are many more who have to struggle daily for the simplest things we take for granted: food, clothing, shelter and dignity. So as we enter the new year, let us do so as one big family taking care of our siblings - particularly our brothers and sisters still in poverty farming the lands and hoping that one day they too can live a better quality of life. As we work from our homes and offices as Human Nature advocates, let us be their ates and kuyas making sure that they don't get left behind. Let our success this year be defined by how much we are able to achieve AS ONE FILIPINO FAMILY.
