"...we are giving former contractual workers hope that the manufacturing industry is not synonymous with endo and low pay." — Mildred Baril, Plant Manager, Human Nature Carmelray Campus

Prior to Human Nature, I had worked with several big companies. I was happy I was getting a good salary, but I did not like it when the salaries of those in higher positions were way too much versus those on the lower ranks.

Here's how I see it: I want a good salary, but I also want everybody in my sphere of work treated well. I understand contractualization from a business point of view but I am not a proponent of it.

"I now have more time with my family." — Michelle Lucido, HR Officer, Human Nature Carmelray Campus

One Christmas break, I was looking forward to bonding with my only daughter. To my surprise and dismay, my daughter told me that she didn't want to play with me because I was always busy. It was a tough wake-up call. True, I had access to material comforts, but I didn't have time with my family.

I now have more time with my family. My daughter is now seven years old. She always comes to the Carmelray Campus whenever we have activities like Trick or Treat and Kids Camp. She enjoys staying and tells me she wants to study hard so she can replace me in the near future (!) – she dreams of working here because she knows how happy I am working here.

Message from Anna, Dylan, and Camille

Dear Human Nature Family,

I find it hard to believe that we're almost at the end of 2017! So much has happened and we have accomplished a great deal as a company. Together we have launched 22 new products, an outstanding achievement! Big salute to the whole New Product Development team for putting Human Nature at the forefront of green cosmetic innovations not only in the Philippines but all around the world!

After many, many months of negotiations, we are also now finally in the shelves of Watsons, the leading cosmetics retail store in the country. We are also about to open our very first concept store in Vista Mall who have agreed to our policy of no work on Sunday. This is great exposure for us as well as a golden opportunity to show other companies how we can be a sustainable business while still valuing quality of life and rest for our people. Many congratulations to our hard-working Retail, Branch Ops and Logistics Teams!

On the international front, we have brought Human Nature to two new exciting markets: Japan and Canada. This is monumental because both countries have very high quality standards as well as very socially-conscious markets, fertile grounds for Human Nature's international growth.

Internally, we've done quite a lot of new things this year to make the lives of our people even better starting with the 7.5 hour work day. I hope this new policy is allowing our employees to avoid the traffic and getting home to their families much earlier.

It's our Paseo Office's Christmas Party and they're all dolled up!

We've opened a brand new office in Paseo and expanded our hiring in the south. We've increased the minimum salary in Human Nature to PhP20,000/month with an additional Php1,000/month per child under the age of 18.

Believe it or not, we've welcomed 25 new Human Nature babies in 2017. What a blessing to all the parents! With it comes the child birth benefit of PhP10,000 per newborn as a gesture to show that we love and value the next generation.

Sick leaves can now be converted to cash at the end of the year so it's very important to keep our minds and bodies in tip-top shape! All of these benefits have resulted in significant improvements in the lives of our people especially those coming from poor communities. We conducted a pilot survey of 30 employees with the help of the Institute of Social Enterprises in Asia and the data has shown that majority of our workers have found that working in Human Nature has made their lives better and that our programs have created a clear path out of poverty for them.

What else can we look forward to in 2018? To begin with we will continue to measure our social impact as we move into our 10th year of Human Nature. We will roll out our pilot study to 200 employees to measure significant changes in quality of life and the development of our people.

We will also be increasing the vacation leaves to 20 working days for qualified employees with tenure. We're working towards building a better organization, releasing more truly ground-breaking natural products and working with more local ingredients in partnership with DOST and other credible institutions.

What has all of these achievements shown us? Simply that following the right path and not conforming to the patterns of the world will bring us the right kind of success – one that creates value, brings lasting joy and a sense of purpose. May God continue to give us the strength and determination to follow the straight and narrow path as we build a globally successful company with a heart that will embolden all other businesses to better serve society.

May you feel loved in this season of giving.

With resolute hope,
Anna, Dylan and Camille
