Last month I had the pleasure of staying at Goldeneye in Jamaica, the former home of writer Ian Fleming where he penned all his James Bond novels. The heavenly hideaway is now an exclusive resort owned by Island Records founder Chris Blackwell (family friend of the Flemings and the man who introduced Bob Marley to the world). Goldeneye re-opened last December and is a hot spot for presidents, prime ministers, popstars and personalities. I look forward to writing about it in my travel articles.
I also visited the Galapagos Safari Camp recently where I came face to face with a huge tortoise. Experiencing nature's beauty reminds me to keep clearing my cupboards of chemical cosmetics and go natural with my travel kit. The skin is highly permeable, designed to eliminate toxins from the body through blood vessels and detoxification of pores. Yet by applying chemical products we are doing the reverse, with 60% of what we put on to our skin absorbed directly into our blood stream.
The American Cancer Society recently released a study concerning synthetic chemicals in cosmetics and its role in breast cancer. Yet cosmetic industries are still permitted to put harmful chemicals linked to breast cancer, infertility and birth defects into pretty packages advocating radiance and rejuvenation. That's why I was so pleased when Human Nature's lab developed its all-natural deodorant. Sweat is odorless; it is the bacteria on the skin that creates the offensive body odor. Chitosan is a natural, non-toxic, biodegradable, anti-bacterial alternative to the alcohol found in commercial deodorants.
When I discovered Human Nature toxin-free cosmetics on a visit to Manila (before I was a Global Ambassador), I deliberately picked items with delicious Philippine ingredients like calamansi, gugo bark and moringa (malunggay), to show off to my overseas friends. Today I travel everywhere with my Human Nature products - a constant reminder to wake up to a new dawn of good health and happiness!

What I Learned
- Chitosan promotes wound healing, anti-itching, is anti-microbial and an excellent skin moisturizer.
- This also means goodbye to dark underarms, caused by alcohol in deodorants.
- Human Nature does not use antiperspirant actives such as aluminum salts, now linked to breast cancer, reproductive system toxicity and neurotoxicity.
