Lyra Prieto made the leap of faith to Human Nature because she fell in love with the simplicity of its culture and advocacy.

Prior to working at Human Nature as the Category Manager for Face & Lip Care and Mineral Make-Up, Lyra was no stranger to the beauty industry. “I worked for L’Oreal,” Lyra recounts. “I jumped from one division to another and did Sales Analysis to Retail to Training to Marketing and everything at the same time!” But as this busy beauty grew in her industry, so did her status in life evolve into that of a blissful newlywed ready to make a change in her life.

So when Lyra’s good friend informed her of an opening at Human Nature, Lyra jumped at the opportunity without a second thought. “All I heard were good things about [Human Nature],” Lyra describes, “from the advocacy, to the people, to work-life-balance, to all the new things she learns every day. It was the kind of company that I knew I wanted to be part of.”

According to Lyra, the difference between working in a multinational beauty industry and a budding social enterprise lies in the heart of the company. “When you work in the beauty industry for quite a long time, one has the tendency to become more superficial and lose the important values that matter in life,” Lyra explains. “Every working day seems like a normal manufacturing company – the meetings are still there, the sales monitoring, and maybe even the stress. But every end-of-the-day is totally different, knowing that your hard work will help change someone’s life. Here, work still feels more humane. When you’re in a big multinational company, everything you do is attached to a sales figure, that you sometimes you lose yourself in the process.”

In the end, Lyra’s journey to Human Nature was a blessing that struck the perfect balance between making a living and building meaningful lives for others. “They say it’s not every day that you get the chance to pay it forward or help someone out – but here, you have the chance to that every single day. You don’t just make a living here. [...] You work to give someone hope, keep their faith, and encourage them to change their lives for the better.”

Every day, I am reminded that sometimes, all you need are simple ideas that can create huge impacts,” Lyra reflects. “As I work with grounded, advocacy-driven and inspiring people with clear and simple goals, I can now see life from different angles and I’d like to think that I’m finding my way back to my old self again.”
