Like many Filipinas, her life revolves around providing her family with only the best that she can give them.

Working with Xilca Alvarez-Protacio in the social enterprise Gourmet Keso, Maricel and her family are Gawad Kalinga beneficiaries. Maricel’s thoughts are always with her four children, filled with the warmth and tenderness only a mother can give.

Maricel represents the countless Filipina mothers who struggle through hardships so their children will have a better life. In this day and age when the world seems to be saying that life should be all about “me”, Filipinas like Maricel live a life all about “we”.

It is because of Filipinas like Maricel that Filipino families remain mostly strong and loving with happy children, no matter what life throws at us.
