Rose Cabrera was well on her way to becoming the first Filipina judge in the USA when God’s gentle nudge pushed her to share her blessings with fellow Filipinos living in poverty.

Together with her husband, Rose decided to follow the calling and move back to the Philippines. It was here where she played a key role in developing Gawad Kalinga’s social artistry phase by co-founding GKonomics as well as the GK Performing Arts Group, Atelyer - Pis Syabit.

Not limiting herself to working locally, Rose put to use her well-honed talents and skills to take on the leadership for GK USA as well as personally fund and build GK Cambodia, one of the first GK sites to be established overseas.

It took a lot of courage to give up a dream that was pursued for almost a lifetime. But for Rose Cabrera, that dream was simply replaced with much nobler dream – one that would give hope to those who have lost their capacity to dream.

“My dream for the Philippines is for us to be a light to the world and be able to show them how simple caring can bring them out of poverty.”
