The recent trip of our Social Enterprise Development Team to GK Pueblo Antonio was very exciting because we are getting closer to realizing our dream of developing a sustainable farming community in Davao City.
We have brought an oil press machine that will be used to extract oil from sunflower and passion fruit seeds which will eventually be incorporated to your favorite Human Nature products.
The Kapitbahayan were very eager to test run the equipment as men and women, young and old, gathered together and helped assemble it. Bayanihan spirit is very much alive in this empowered community!
We are being assisted by the University of Southern Mindanao in making the machine efficient to be able to reach the high quality we need for our raw materials.
We have established two hectares of passion fruit trees and test plots for a sunflower variety from Argentina.
The DA-Biotech and UP Los Banos also helped us in making the plantations more prolific by teaching bee farming to the Kapitbahayan.
We also showed how to do soil testing to the GK kids who were very amazed and interested to learn about the science behind what they see around them.
The trip became more meaningful as we see these kids play every afternoon amidst the lush greens of their village. After all, these efforts to create vibrant communities are for them.
