Keep your home clean and fresh naturally with our new Natural Peppermint Oil!

According to the US National Pest Management Association, ants frequent homes during warmer months as they come looking for food and water making them the top nuisance pest in America. As such, the US NPMA recommends that you keep your house clean especially your kitchen and bathroom for these are the places most vulnerable to ant infestation. They also suggest repairing door screens and to seal cracks and holes where ants can pass through.

But what if you wake up one morning to find a dashed line moving across your kitchen countertop? As we cap off April aka National Pest Management, here are three easy ways to help keep your home safe from ants while keeping it smelling clean and fresh.

1. Repel ants in a safe and natural way.

Fables taught us a lesson or two about how admirable ants and their planning skills are. However, it can be a little nerve-wracking when they start forming lines around the kitchen or any part of the house for that matter, when they decide to begin to stock up for winter.

Spotting one ant or even a small group of them may seem harmless but an entire colony of them can cause damage to your home if they end up chewing their way through your furniture and electrical wiring.

Hit two birds with one stone with this simple hack—add 2-3 drops of Natural Peppermint Oil to surfaces like countertops, under the kitchen sink and window sills to prevent ants from hanging around and to give the room a pleasant scent.

2. Freshen your upholstery.

Speaking of freshening up a room. Supermarket aisles are lined with air fresheners of all scents and sizes and a good chunk of these are in aerosol format. But as attractive as they are, prolonged exposure to household aerosol impose potential health risks. Studies have linked aerosol to a handful of illnesses from headaches, allergic skin reactions, asthma to respiratory problems. Plus, aerosol products contain chlorofluorocarbons also known as CFCs which contributes to the depletion of the ozone layer.

Don’t fret because you can still freshen up your home without having to worry about exposing yourself or the environment to any harm. Freshen your upholstery by mixing Natural Peppermint Oil with baking soda and sprinkling on furniture before vacuuming. Once you’re done cleaning, you can warm up some Natural Citronella Oil using an oil burner to double as air freshener and mosquito repellent.

3. Mask unwanted odors.

Not everybody can afford to do their laundry every day and if you have to wait until weekend to wash your clothes, you might be interested in keeping your hamper from smelling off. Sprinkle a few drops of Peppermint Oil on a cotton ball and keep it in your laundry bin to help mask odors. You can also do the same to neutralize the odor of your closet and shoe cabinet!
