Heroes are made, not born - and what better place to bring your inner hero to the forefront than the Gawad Kalinga BAYANI CHALLENGE 2013? We salute YOU, bayanis, for pushing your limits to conquer 5 arduous days of nation-building, uplifting communities, forging friendships, and bringing a light of hope to those who need it most.


“To be holy is healing the suffering & making the broken whole,” expresses Gawad Kalinga founder Tony Meloto. And that is exactly what 100,000 everyday heroes did last March 23-27 when they responded to the urgent call to build our nation in GK villages in 37 sites around the country. In true bayanihan spirit, these enthused volunteers took off for their chosen sites and constructed homes, repaired schools, participated in health missions, planted trees, and partook in tons of fun activities with the kids of different communities!

“Doing Bayani Challenge is discovering how our country is as wonderful as our people,” Tito Tony emphasizes, “[It’s] time to fall in love with the Philippines.”

As one nation, we celebrate the dedication and valor of our modern day heroes who not only took the road less traveled this season, but who actually got on their knees and paved a path for future nationbuilders to follow in their footsteps.


But the challenge does not end here - it continues to thrive with the passion sparked by our heroes, who in their return, challenge us to continuously profess our profuse love for country through solidarity and everyday heroism.

To the thousands who pledged their patriotic passion and love for country these past 5 days, you have all proven that the Philippines is truly a nation of heroes! WALANG IMPOSIBLE KUNG WALANG IWANAN!
