Looking for a bit of inspiration? Take it from this gal. Meet Lyn Pinugu, Managing Director of Mano Amiga, an international school for underprivileged kids, and World Economic Forum Global Shaper and Representative to Davos World Economic Forum 2012.

Lyn’s inspiring journey started back in 2006 when she moved to Mexico as an international youth volunteer. Upon walking into Mano Amiga Guanajuato, she was surprised to find out that students only paid a symbolic amount in exchange for good, quality education and facilities. What surprised her even more though is the students’ genuine desire to be of service to others.

Lyn left Mexico with lots of memories, knowledge and hope that one day, the very same program would be brought over to the Philippines. That one day finally came and the program director of Altius Foundation appointed her to be the pioneer of the school system in the Philippines.

Fast forward to 2012 and you’ve got the same gal with so much spunk, drive and passion to uplift Filipinos from poverty. Read on to learn more about her and her love affair with Human Nature.

1. How did you find out about Human Nature?

My first encounter with Human Nature was through the Moms who help me with Mano Amiga. They were raving about the product line for babies. They couldn't believe how affordable it was and that it was Filipino-made. About a year after, I had the honor of speaking alongside Anna Meloto-Wilk in a Social Enterprise seminar where I learned the story behind the brand. Although I was really impressed with Human Nature's mission and values, I was afraid to try the products because I have very sensitive skin so I usually just stick to the ones I've been using for years. One time, during a trip, I left my facial wash and I had to borrow the Human Nature Balancing Facial Wash of my roommate, marine advocate & Human Nature Ambassador Anna Oposa. It was love at first use! My face felt really clean and smooth after. The following day, I asked Anna (Oposa) to come with me to Beauty Bar and I bought for myself.

2. What attracted you to Human Nature?

The fact that it offers high quality products at an affordable price, and empowers low-income communities at the same time.

3. What are your Human Nature products?

I'm a complete convert - I use the Avocado Moisturizing Shampoo, Balancing Facial Toner, and Sunflower Beauty Oil. The mineral blush I use is also from Human Nature. I must say though that my favorite product is still the Balancing Facial wash. I was sharing with the two Annas (Meloto-Wilk & Oposa) that my heat rash on my back cleared up when I started using it. I actually now use the facial wash as a body wash. I've even successfully converted many of my friends into using it as well. I'm very pleased to say that almost everyone who tried the facial wash decided to incorporate it into their daily beauty regimen. :)

4. Have you always been into organic/natural/healthy/green living?

I strive to be a conscientious consumer. I believe that more companies will opt to 'go green' if more people decide to adopt more responsible buying and consumption patterns.

5. What are some eco-friendly tips that you can share with us?

Be smart about what you buy - don't buy something you don't really need; always choose quality & durability over something disposable because choosing the former means less waste & that you'll be able to use it for a long time; recycle everything you can.

Also, find ways to encourage others to make small but significant changes toward a more sustainable lifestyle.

6. What are your daily / philosophy inspirations?

I try to live each day with a sense of awe, appreciation and gratitude.

7. What keeps you busy these days?

I am the co-founder of Mano Amiga Academy, a school that provides quality education to underprivileged children (www.manoamigapilipinas.blogspot.com). I'm also the Curator of the World Economic Forum Global Shapers Manila hub. For our inaugural project, we partnered with the Library Renewal Partnership program in building 200 community libraries and learning centers across Philippines by 2020. Lastly, my friends fondly refer to me as a ‘dabbler’ because I try to learn a new skill every year. My favorite so far was when I decided to enroll in horseback riding lessons in 2010 as my birthday present for myself.

8. Tips for healthy living?

Instead of driving, choose to walk or ride a bike whenever you can. Always make time for nature; I try not to let a month pass without hiking up a mountain, surfing or swimming in the beach, planting a tree in my small farm, or rowing in a river.
