Family-friendly policies & development trainings for a stronger, happier team
A strong team isn’t just built on numbers, but on each member’s strength. As for the manufacturing industry, a ‘strong’ team is often made up of people who experience poor working conditions in manufacturing plants every day.
Over 35 million Filipinos work as contractual workers, a practice of ending the contract of employees after hiring them to work for five months. Most of them are rank and file employees including production workers.
Despite a minimum wage salary (sometimes, even below minimum), zero to minimal work benefits and lack of job security, many Filipinos endure these poor labor conditions to make ends meet.
Located at the Philippine Economic Zone Authority, Human Nature's manufacturing plant may be a little David when next to the giant manufacturing giants like Leslie’s, ACS, or Fuji, but the goodness that we’ve shared with our Carmelray team is one that goes beyond the gates of the plant.
People over Profit
Human Nature’s stance on putting people above profit aims to invest back to the people—from middle managers to rank and file employees, whose welfare are often compromised to ‘maximize’ the production at a plant.
Our Carmelray team enjoys wages over 68% above the NCR minimum daily wage of P491, a far cry from P340.50 daily minimum wage for Calamba, Laguna where the Carmelray Industrial Park is located.
The plant also gives equal opportunities for men and women to succeed. A common practice in most manufacturing plants is the minimal opportunities for women to get hired or to lead their own team, but in Carmelray most departments are led by women, with almost half of the employees are female.
Most manufacturing plants go for long working hours to maximize its production rate but this often puts the welfare of its workers at risk. Our shortened work days to 7.5 are enjoyed by the Head Office in Quezon City down to our Carmelray team in Laguna. “We look forward in totally removing our graveyard shift in this year,” Michelle Lucido of Human Resources Officer at the plant said.
Family First
Strengthening families has become one of the agendas not just at the home office, but at the plant as well.
Carmelray’s HR team are working on setting life skills training to continuously hone the team’s skills with trainings on financial literacy, maximizing talents to help serve others, and on how to become good role models for their children.
“Our average attendees are eight employees per run. We have three runs in a day to accommodate everyone because majority of us is in shifting schedule,” Lucido shared.
The marriage assistance program which employees can avail through getting married in faith, no religion exclusions. According to Lucido, four employees from the production team got married through the marriage assistance program.
With putting people first, it’s no wonder that our Carmelray team grew from its ‘Magic 8’ team to a 125-workforce.
