As a little girl, I was once shown a postcard of an island with mountains made from chocolate. From that moment I longed to see Bohol. This year that childhood dream became reality and charmed me more than I ever imagined.

My journey led me to a bed & breakfast called Bohol Bee Farm. I was tickled by the name and attracted by their flower salad signature dish. What was this place? 

Bohol Bee Farm is like stepping into the pages of a fable where everyone lives abundantly and happily ever after. It is a story of empowering and inspiring others to practice organic farming to the very core, while adopting goodwill and respect for life and land. As its name suggests, the farm is a little kingdom of “busy bees” constantly caring, protecting, growing, creating and reaping within its realm. Visitors leave rejuvenated, happier, healthier and enriched by the experience.

The owner, Vicky Wallace, left New York and returned to Bohol to give back to her community. Bohol Bee Farm now employs 206 locals (80% are women) and has 3 organic restaurants serving innovative, exquisite cuisine. Vicky went from concrete jungle to create a tropical, lush haven of rustic cottages embraced in arboreal delight and exotic flora. She has introduced exciting livelihood activities visitors can partake in, and delicious farm-made products for sustainability. There’s a bakery, a herbal hilot spa, handicrafts store, informative marine and land tours, coffee and chocolate products and a “food-for-the-gods” ice creamery, spooning out unique flavors like malunggay. I was thrilled to discover the farm has an entire stand devoted to the products of Human Nature and honored to meet “Ate Vicky” who is proud to be a Human Nature dealer.

Bohol Bee Farm promotes the protection of bees and teaches their value, use and products. No other insect serves the needs of man like the honey bee; 80% of pollination is done by bees. Were it not for bees, many fruits and vegetables would not exist. Lately, bees have been disappearing by the billions.

Human Nature understands the importance of bees and the good they offer. Beeswax, natural honey extract and bee propolis are bee by-products found in Human Nature products, namely, body butter, hand and foot salve, lipbalm, lipstick, hairs masks.

In Bohol, I immersed myself in all farm activities, the company of positive people, tantalizing meals, white sands, a river cruise, marine exploits, historical monuments, ancient churches , “miracle water”, caves, beheld the stunning Chocolate Hills and encountered the world’s smallest primate, the Philippine tarsier.

My childhood expectations did not disappoint: Bohol is rich, covered in chocolate and drizzling in much, much more!
