Traveling with kids is, as parents soon realize, on a whole different level. Things you didn't realize you needed to pack or book ahead or consider while traveling with children are usually things a parent learn along the way.

If you're flying somewhere with the whole family for the first time this Christmas break, ease up that learning curve and skip some of the stress by knowing the essential preps before traveling with the kiddos:

1. Bring paper bags, eco bags and masking tape

Not the classiest things to pack, we know. But hey, when the dirty laundry, used diapers and snack wrappers start to pile up, you'd thank yourself for packing the extra bags.

The masking tape also comes in handy when there are accidental rips on your canvas luggage or your trolley handle goes wonky. The DIY patch up can get you through the day without having to make big emergency purchases.

2. Stash small bills

Get rid of the hassle of reaching for your bulky wallet every time you need to buy something. Separate small bills you can use for vending machines, tips and other small purchases and place them in a pouch you can just place in an easy-to-reach pocket.

3. Stock up on in-flight entertainment

Bring your kid's favorite small toys like Legos and small puzzles. And if you're going to load up the tablet with movies and games, make sure you do it at least a day before the trip. Downloading heavy files might take some time and you don't want that to be the reason you'll be running late for your flight.

4. Shop for double-duty personal products

One of the most important thing you'll need when traveling with kids is enough space –  when it comes to airplane or car seats, hotel rooms, and yes, definitely luggage.

You don't want to be running around the airport (or anywhere, really) with kids in tow and you're being bogged down with extra weight. Trust us, every extra kilo in that carry-on will feel five times heavier when you're rushing to the check-in counter.

Keep your in-transit moments stress free by packing light, and trick to doing just that is bagging multitasking products that can be used by the whole family.

Our number one recommendation: Human Nature Kids Natural Shampoo & Body Wash. It comes in 50ml bottles, perfect for overnighters and backpacking trips. For longer trips, opt for the 200ml or 490ml bottle to be used by the whole family. Yes, it's everyone's shampoo AND body wash in one convenient bottle.

Another family favorite is Human Nature SafeProtect SPF30 Sunscreen for Babies & Kids. With it's high SPF and PA++++ rating, it effectively blocks both UVA and UVB rays. It's also water-resistant for longer play time for the kiddies,  AND reef-friendly and biodegradable for sea-friendly trips for the whole family.
