Anna Oposa: Ambassador of the Philippine Seas

"The Filipina is always the life of the party; we're always the ones singing, we're always the ones getting people to go to the dance floor. I think it's really in our culture to be very affectionate and very happy and very humorous."

"The Filipina is always the life of the party; we're always the ones singing, we're always the ones getting people to go to the dance floor. I think it's really in our culture to be very affectionate and very happy and very humorous."

At the budding age of 24, Anna Oposa has made it her mission to make a difference in preserving the natural beauty that the Philippines has to offer the world.

Already, she has made a name for herself in Philippine environmental and marine conservation circles as a passionate advocate gifted with the charisma to influence others, especially the youth, to share the passion for protecting the environment.

Anna co-founded the Save the Philippine Seas movement, represented the Philippines at the British Council’s Global Changemakers Asian Youth Summit, was a Philippine delegate to the UN Climate Change Conference in Cancun, Mexico, and was part of the Global Shapers Community at the World Economic Forum 2012 in Davos, Switzerland.

All these have been driven by an immense love, conviction and passion for the Philippines and her seas.

Through her work, Anna dreams of a Philippines whose beauty will continue to flourish for generations to come because of the protective care and love that the Filipinos of today will have for the environment.

"One of the greatest compliments I ever got was – I was in Japan and I had just given a presentation about the Philippine waste management, and one Singaporean went up to me after and said, “You know, you make me wish I was a Filipino.” And I ended up crying because I was so moved".

"The Filipina is always the life of the party; we’re always the ones singing, we’re always the ones getting people to go to the dance floor. I think it’s really in our culture to be very affectionate and very happy and very humorous.”
